Paleocene Palecopeia.mp3 – Venus Vulture track on Reverbnation

I’ve uploaded a little noodling to the Venus Vulture Reverbnation site – just some drones with a few processed guitar sounds (and those inevitable field recordings) – as part of the 2010 music project. A shade under three minutes long.

Download the track – yes, Paleocene is a real word, Palecopeia is made up. More on that later.

See, stream and/or download the full list of 2010 tracks here.

Brunk – Winter ep

Well, it’s the height of winter here and, by coincidence really, I’ve been listening to my cd copy of brunk’s Winter ep released through Resting Bell. Winter ep is a nice short collection of four tracks, mostly laid-back guitar, about 20 minutes long, just a nice warm up with hot chocolate and a new story on the go. The cd seems to be sold out now (it was a limited edition), but you can still download from Resting Bell, or from Brunk’s bandcamp site, where he has some other material available too.

venusvulture.com revamped site

The new venusvulture.com website is working a treat now.
.

I figured out what I’d done wrong (see the bottom of this post) – I’d made the base of some images in Windows Paint, which capitalises the .JPG extension, and then the html didn’t like them because they were all .jpg. The joys of hand coding.

.

Sure, there’s tinkering to do, but it’s looking better than the minimal look it used to have.

Gurgle and sad faces. My updates to the website seem to have gone squish (it’s a long story involving using two different computers, and being away from the other one as I post this). At the moment it looks like this:

Well that’s not working for anyone (though, surprisingly enough, the links do work). Somehow I think I’ve rushed Filezilla and missed getting some of the pictures uploaded. Will fix it later on. Yes, normal service will be resumed.

Hiatus and redefining

Well, I’ve had an unintended hiatus from blogging here, but if you’re reading this you’re one of the few. I have been taking stock over the last month or two with regards to the energy I put into the blog – thinking that really my energy may be better spent on other projects, ie writing and music. Plus, I kind of don’t get this whole social networking thing anyway – introvert that I am.

So, I’m in the process of redefining what I do here – fewer posts, more focus on current writing (both mine and others) and current music, less of the ramble (like this) and more energy for those other projects.

New Favourite Show – Modern Family

Sunday night, 7.30pm, all new Simpsons. Yeah, still funny and engaging characters and I smiled from time to time. Then, 8pm, Modern Family, and I’m laughing out loud. Again and again. This is one of the few sitcoms without a laugh-track, which honestly helps make it funny. I so often get tired of soundtrack laughter, especially when things aren’t that funny (I’m meaning contrived one-liners, followed by that taped laugh). So, yeah, Modern Family is my new favourite show.

Then again, I watched Gary Unmarried and that’s got a laugh track, but the writing seems pretty supreme – the characters are entertaining and engaging, the situations clever and the one liners actually funny. Okay, I’ve only seen one episode, but got more laughs from that than the total cumulative number of laughs from Friends ever. Okay, I didn’t watch that many episodes of Friends, but still …

Robot

Brain in slow meltdown, with nothing to report. Here’s a robot I doodled which shows the quality of my thinking right now. So much for a book review today.
